Real estate in King Williams is considered to be some of the most historic and unique real estate in San Antonio, Texas. Located just south of the city’s robust downtown and bounded by Durango, South St. Mary’s, Eagleland, and the San Antonio River, King Williams is set on what (in antiquity) was irrigated farmland that supported the operation of Mission San Antonio de Valero - or as it is more commonly known, The Alamo. Despite this already important historical significance, the community is more well-known for the neighborhood that was laid down in the 1860’s. In this decade, the area was divided into the lots and streets that persist to this day. Like a number of cities and towns in Central Texas King Williams was founded by German colonists and was originally known as King Wilhelms until it was anglicized during World War I. It was during this time period that the neighborhood fell into decline, however , it was revitalized in the 1950s by those who were interested in its proximity to the business district in Downtown San Antonio Moreover, those invested in the revitalization of the community recognized the potential to restore these gorgeous houses and cottages. As a result, King Williams real estate became the first neighborhood in San Antonio to be designated at a historic district. Soon after, king Williams was included in the National Register Historic District.

King Williams is served by San Antonio ISD. The district has been struggling in recent years and was recently rated as “Academically Unacceptable” by the Texas Education Agency.
